Poson Poya Programme at the Vihara

The devotees of the Vihara will observe eight precepts on Poson Full moon day .
The Sila programme will run from 9.00am to 5.00pm on 30th of June 07 at the Vihara.

According to the records in Sri Lankan chronicles, Mahawamsa,Dipawamsa, etc.,the Poson full moon day has been associated with the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka.from time immemorial, this occasion has been celebrated and observed by Sri Lankans with immense dedication and deep religious fervour, conscious of the fact that it has offered a noble religious philosophy and also a very satisfactory Sinhala Buddhist social order.
Buddhism was introduced to Sri Lanka by Arahath Maha Mahinda Thera in 308 B.C accompanied by six other monks from India.

The Theravada Bhikkhuni’s (Nun) Visit to Scotland


Dear devotees and friends in Dhamma,

Ven. Bhikkhuni Kusuma MA PhD, is a fully ordained Buddhist Nun who has pioneered re-establishment of the Therevada Female Buddhist Order in Sri Lanka, 1000 years after the Order gradually vanished.

The Bhikkhuni Ven Dr Kusuma as part of her current tour of the UK will be paying a brief visit to Scotland and staying in Glasgow from 18th to 20th June 2007. It is a great privilege for us all to meet Bhikkhuni at the SBV where she will be delivering two Dhamma sermons both in Sihala and in English .


The programme for the Bhikkhuni’s visit at the Scotland’s Buddhist Vihara is as follows.

Monday 18th June 2007: 7.00pm -8.00pm - Dhamma Sermon (in Sinhala)

Tuesday 19th June 2007: 6.30pm-7.30pm - Meditation and a talk on Mindfulness
(in English)
