Wesak 2009



This year’s Wesak will be celebrated on Saturday 09th May at the Vihara and on the 16th of May at the Hidden Gardens.

Devotees will observe the Eight Precepts from 9.00am to 4.00pm at the Vihara on 09th May and there will be a special Wesak Sermon and Puja at 4.30pm after the Sila programme.

The pan Buddhist Wesak Festival with Dansela will be held at the Hidden Gardens, No 25 Albert Drive, Glasgow from 11.00am to 4.00pm on the 16th of May.

The Dansela will start at 12.30pm and if you would like to participate in offering Dana on Wesak Day please be kind enough to donate the listed food items to the Vihara before the 10th of May 09 in order that free food can be prepared for the festival.

Auspicious Times( Nekath )for the Sinhala and Tamil New year



The Sinhala and Tamil New year will dawn in England at 08.17pm on Monday 13th April according to British Summer Time.

Auspicious times for various activities according to astrology are as follows:

Nonagatha Kalaya is from 01.53pm on 13th April

Lighting the fire (Lipa Gini Melaveema) to prepare( kiribath ) milk rice is at 11.20pm on 13th April. The Auspicious direction is North and auspicious cloth colour is cream, yellow or golden colour.

Prepare (Kiribath) milk rice from red rice mixed with sesame seeds and Ghee and jaggery.

Eating the first morsels (Ahara Anubhawaya) and entering into the first business transaction ( Weda Alleema, Ganudenu) is at 11.59pm

We will be conducting Awurudu Puja on 13th April at 4.00pm at the Vihara.
